Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, welcomed the statement issued on 21 July by 25 countries, including 18 member states of the European Union, as well as the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Japan, Norway, and New Zealand, calling for an immediate end to the war on Gaza. The statement noted that “the suffering of civilians in Gaza has reached new levels of depth,” and unequivocally condemned “the inhumane killing of civilians, including children, while trying to meet their basic needs for water and food.”
