General Secretariat statement

​The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States strongly condemns the statements made by the Prime Minister of the occupying Israeli state regarding the annexation of parts of the territories of sovereign Arab states, as a prelude to the establishment of what he called "Greater Israel." Such statements constitute a violation of the sovereignty of Arab states and an attempt to undermine security and stability in the region.

The Elders, concerned with international peace and justice, visit General Secretariat

​Dr. Said Abu Ali, Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and the Occupied Arab Territories at the League of Arab States, received at the General Secretariat headquarters on 12 August a delegation from The Elders, including Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland, and Helen Clark, former Prime Minister of New Zealand. The Elders is a group founded by the late Nelson Mandela, dedicated to issues of international peace and justice. 

General Secretariat signs MoU with Egyptian-African Society for Cardiology and Research

​Ambassador Mohannad Saleh Lajouzi, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Director-General of the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries, signed two memoranda of understanding (MoU) with the Egyptian-African Society for Cardiology and Research, represented by Dr. Ahmed Ashraf Issa, President of the Society, and the Friends of the National Heart Institute, represented by Dr. Ghada Ali Musa Qazamel, Chairperson of the Society's Board of Directors. The signing took place on 10 August at the headquarters of the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries.

General Secretariat inaugurates summer training programme for university students

​The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States inaugurated the 2025 Summer Training Programme for University Students at its headquarters on 10 August. The programme is attended by a select group of university students from various Arab countries.

​Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, welcomed the Lebanese government’s decision to adopt a practical plan to implement the resolution restricting arms to state authorities as the means of ensuring Lebanon’s stability.

Aboul Gheit rejects and condemns Israeli plan to reoccupy Gaza Strip

​Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, rejected and strongly condemned a plan announced to have been approved by the Israeli Security Cabinet. The plan calls for the “reoccupation” of the Gaza Strip, placing it under Israeli control, displacing the residents of Gaza City, and confining most of the Strip’s population to a small area in its south.

​His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Saleh Al-Ajeri, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Administrative and Financial Affairs Sector, met with Mr. Mohamed Ben Ayad, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, at the headquarters of the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 5 August in the presence of His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Saleh Ben Issa, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Tunis Centre. The discussions focused on ways to enhance joint Arab action, as well as several technical matters of mutual interest.

Aboul Gheit receives Chairman of Jordan's Independent Election Commission

​Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received Engineer Musa Maaytah, Chairman of the Independent Election Commission of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, along with his accompanying delegation at the headquarters of the General Secretariat on 4 August. The meeting was attended by Ambassador Amjad Al-Adayleh, Permanent Representative of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the League of Arab States.

Head of League Mission conducts field tour to follow up on Egypt's Senate elections

​Ambassador Khalil Ibrahim Al Thawadi, Assistant Secretary-General, head of the Arab Affairs and National Security Sector, and head of the League of Arab States' Mission to Monitor the Senate Elections in the Arab Republic of Egypt, conducted a field tour on the morning of the first day of voting. During the tour, he inspected several polling stations in Cairo, one of the largest electoral constituencies, where he was briefed on the progress of the electoral process and the procedures in place to facilitate voting.
