League to monitor Iraq's 2025 parliamentary elections

​n response to an invitation extended to His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, by the Independent High Electoral Commission of the Republic of Iraq regarding the League’s participation in monitoring the Iraqi parliamentary elections scheduled for 11 November, and in line with the League’s commitment to monitoring elections in its member states, as well as its dedication to supporting and strengthening democracy, consolidating good governance, and ensuring the proper conduct of elections, His Excellency the Secretary-General directed the dispatch of a League mission headed by Ambassador Dr. Faed Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General. The mission comprises several staff members from the General Secretariat representing five Arab nationalities to monitor this important electoral event.

​An invitation was extended to His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, by Counsellor Hazem Badawi, Chairman of the National Elections Authority, regarding the League’s participation in monitoring the 2025 Egyptian parliamentary elections. In line with the League’s commitment to following electoral processes in its member states and its keenness to support and strengthen the democratic process, promote good governance, and ensure the smooth conduct of elections, His Excellency the Secretary-General directed the formation of a League mission headed by Ambassador Hussein Al-Hindawi, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Financial and Administrative Control Sector, to monitor the elections. The mission includes a group of observers from the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, representing several Arab nationalities.

Second World Summit for Social Development's Doha Declaration culminates Arab efforts by inclusion of region's social priorities

​In continuation of the League of Arab States’ efforts, along with its member states, to strengthen joint Arab social and developmental action, the General Secretariat participated with a high-level delegation in the Second World Summit for Social Development, held in Doha from 4 to 6 November. The summit witnessed the participation of numerous kings, presidents, and princes from Arab and other countries, representing 167 nations, in addition to senior officials from the United Nations and its specialised agencies, as well as representatives of regional organisations and civil society institutions active in the social field.

League of Arab States: 10th Political Dialogue between the Political and Security Committee of the European Union and the League of Arab States Permanent Representatives

On 4 November 2025, the Political and Security Committee of the European Union (EU PSC) and the League of Arab States (LAS) Permanent Representatives held their 10th Political Dialogue, as part of their regular ‘EU-LAS Strategic Dialogue’, established under the 2014 Athens Declaration. The meeting agenda covered a number of regional and international crises and their repercussions, as well as other topics of common interest. 

General Secretariat signs MoU with Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications

​As part of efforts to strengthen cooperation and partnership between the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States and Chinese academic institutions, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Social Affairs Sector – Department of Education and Scientific Research) and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications on 3 November at the General Secretariat’s headquarters in Cairo.

Meeting held on enhancing Arab regional cooperation on nuclear and radiological emergencies

​he International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in cooperation with the Department of Housing, Water Resources, and Disaster Risk Reduction of the League of Arab States (Economic Affairs Sector) and the Arab Atomic Energy Agency (AAEA), is convening a regional technical meeting within the framework of implementing the Arab Roadmap for Cooperation in Nuclear and Radiological Emergency Preparedness and Response. The meeting, scheduled to take place in Vienna from 3 to 7 November 2025, will bring together experts from Arab countries and the IAEA as part of the Agency’s Regional Technical Cooperation Project.
