League launches First Arab Forum on Early Warning and Disaster Preparedness

​The League of Arab States launched the First Arab Forum on Early Warning and Disaster Preparedness at the headquarters of the League’s General Secretariat on 17 December, with high-level participation from representatives of Arab states, regional and international organisations, United Nations agencies, and experts specialising in disaster risk reduction and early warning systems.

​The Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, His Excellency Mr. Hussein Ibrahim Taha, received His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Faed Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector at the League of Arab States, and His Excellency Ambassador Ali Darwish, head of the Permanent Delegation of the African Union to the League of Arab States, on 16 December on the sidelines of their participation in the consultative meeting hosted by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation General Secretariat. The meeting was held within the framework of the joint coordination mechanism among the three organisations to support the Palestinian cause.

Aboul Gheit condemns attack on UN base in South Kordofan

​The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States strongly condemned the drone attacks that targeted the Kadugli logistical base of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) in South Kordofan State, Sudan, on 13 December. The attacks resulted in the deaths of six personnel and the injury of eight from the Bangladeshi brigade participating in the peacekeeping mission.

Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Reconstruction convenes 42nd session

​The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Social Development and Family, will host the 42nd session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Reconstruction. Concurrently, the Sixth Arab Ministerial Forum on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, held under the theme “Urban Sustainability: For the Future of Generations,” is scheduled to take place under the patronage of the Prime Minister from 14 to 16 December in Doha, at the level of Arab Ministers of Housing and Reconstruction.
