The meeting of the (152) Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States was held at the ministerial level on Tuesday 10 September 2019 in Cairo.

The meeting of the (152) Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States was held on Tuesday 10 September 2019 in Cairo. The meeting was chaired by HE Mr. Ahmed Eissa Awad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Somalia (President of the previous session)
He delivered the opening speech in which he stressed the support of the Palestinian cause as the central issue of the Arab world and called for an end to the occupation and ensure the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. He then handed over the presidency to His Excellency Dr. Mohammad Ali Al-Hakim, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq (Chairman of the current session), who delivered a speech in which he called for peaceful political means to resolve conflicts and crises in the Arab region.

HE Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, delivered  the General Secretariat's  speech in which he stated that the "crisis" situation still looms over the Arab region with the presence of a number of conflicts, many refugees and displaced persons and the state of internal conflict that weakens the immunity of the Arab body and opens the way for  external interventions and proxy wars. Mr. Pierre Krähenbühl, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), delivered a speech in which he referred to the financial crisis that is ravaging the Agency and threatens to stop its work.
He stressed that the crisis is fundamentally political, where the Palestinian refugees are exposed to a political campaign to deny them the status of asylum.
The Council will discuss on its agenda a number of important items, including the Palestinian issue and the Arab-Israeli conflict, in addition to Joint Arab Action, issues affecting Arab national security, as well as combating terrorism and human rights.
