    The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, will travel to New York on Saturday to participate in the high-level segment of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly.

    An official source at the General Secretariat of the League said that during his visit, Aboul Gheit will participate in a number of high-level international summits and meetings that will tackle the most important issues on the agenda of the international community. At its top, the climate summit called for by the UN Secretary-General, the Sustainable Development Summit and the International Summit on Financing for Development.

    The source added that the Secretary-General will also participate in a series of ministerial meetings to be held on the sidelines of the General Assembly, dealing with advancing international efforts to resolve the crises in Syria, Libya and Yemen, mobilizing political and financial support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees and coordinating international support for Sudan to enable it to cross the challenges of the transitional period, strengthening international support for efforts to stabilize security and stability and promote development in Somalia and the development of a strategic partnership between the Arab world and the African continent in preparation for the next Arab-African summit in Riyadh Next November.

    The source added that Aboul Gheit will also hold a series of bilateral meetings with leaders and foreign ministers of a number of Arab, European, African, Asian and Latin countries, including countries that are preparing to join as non-permanent members of the Security Council as of January 1, and those countries with which the Arab League has relations.     ​    The Secretary-General will also meet with senior officials of international and regional organizations to deliberate on a range of common priority issues and ways to develop institutional cooperation with them.     The source pointed out that the Arab foreign ministers will hold an important consultative meeting on the sidelines of the General Assembly to follow up the existing Arab coordination in support of the Palestinian cause, confront Iranian interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries, and discuss the dangerous escalation in the Gulf region following the terrorist attack on Saudi oil installations in Abqaiq and Khurais.
