Under the patronage of His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, the General Secretariat of the League (Energy Department), in cooperation with the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, is organising the 12th celebration of Arab Energy Efficiency Day. The event is taking place on 19 May at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo, in accordance with Resolution 249 of the Executive Office of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity, issued during its 38th session at the General Secretariat headquarters on 15 June 2024.
The Arab Energy Efficiency Day activities will include a special session celebrating the competition for “The Best Patent in the Field of Energy Efficiency.” There will also be a dialogue session on the role of research, development, and invention in finding innovative and sustainable solutions to achieve energy efficiency goals in the Arab region. Additionally, a panel discussion will focus on the guiding framework for evaluating energy efficiency and the cumulative strategic environmental and social impact of renewable energy projects in the Arab region.
The 12th Arab Energy Efficiency Day is a high-level Arab event. It is expected to feature participation from senior officials of the ministries of electricity, representatives of international and regional organisations, and major operating companies in the electricity and energy sectors. Moreover, a group of experts and specialists from the Arab region will be present, giving the event a strategic dimension.
In this regard, Assistant Secretary-General Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Maliki, head of the Economic Affairs Sector, emphasised the importance of Arab countries implementing events, programmes, and activities at the national level to promote the concept of energy efficiency across individual, institutional, and government levels. He also highlighted the need to disseminate this concept through various media outlets, including social networking sites.
