  • Council of Arab Ministers of Justice convenes 41st session; Council's Executive Bureau holds 75th meeting

    ​At the invitation of His Excellency the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice held its 41st session on 12 November under the chairmanship of His Excellency the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Sudan. The 75th meeting of the Executive Bureau of the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice convened on 11 November under the chairmanship of His Excellency the Minister of Justice of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.

    The importance of this session lies in the fact that the Arab region is facing major challenges on multiple fronts, highlighting the need to further develop the joint Arab judicial and legal system, and to strengthen and activate justice mechanisms so that this notable Council may effectively fulfil its responsibilities in addressing these challenges. The session also provides an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment to enhancing Arab and international cooperation in legal and judicial fields.

    During its 41st session, the Council discussed the activation of Arab agreements related to combating terrorism, including the Arab Convention for Combating Terrorism and its implementation mechanism, the Arab Convention for Combating Money Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism, and the Arab Convention for Combating Cybercrime. The Council also considered means of strengthening Arab and international cooperation in combating terrorism. In addition, it reviewed progress made in implementing resolutions related to the Arab Convention against Corruption, the draft Arab Convention on the Status of Refugees in Arab States, the draft Arab Convention on the Protection of Personal Data, the draft Arab Model Law on Preventing Hate Speech, the draft Arab Model Law on Protecting and Assisting Internally Displaced Persons in Arab States, the draft Arab Model Law on Protecting Children from Recruitment in Armed Conflicts, and the updated draft of the Arab Model Law on Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances.

    The 41st session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice was attended by Their Highnesses and Excellencies the Ministers of Justice of the Arab States. The General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, and Naif Arab University for Security Sciences participated as observers.

    The Council’s Executive Bureau, which convened on 11 November prepared all agenda items and drafted the necessary recommendations to be presented at the 41st session.
