Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit met on Monday with Mr. Mohamed Taher Sayyala,  Foreign Minister of the Libyan National Reconciliation Government.

An official source at the League's General Secretariat stated that Aboul Gheit presented in this regard his efforts to defuse the current crisis in Libya and encourage the Libyan brothers to return to the path of a comprehensive political settlement of the situation in the country, through the immediate reduction of the military escalation and reaching a permanent cease fire around the capital Tripoli to ensure the cessation of hostilities which has now continued for the fifth month, and to re-engage in the UN-sponsored political process led by UN envoy Ghassan Salameh.

The source added that Aboul Gheit also reviewed with the minister the overall issues and items on the agenda of the League Council meeting to be held at the ministerial level on Tuesday, and the need for interlacing Arab efforts to stand with the State of Libya and agree on a unified vision to support the Libyans in reaching an integrated settlement for the situation in the country with its security, political, economic and humanitarian dimensions.
