Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, flew from Cairo to New York on 17 September to participate in the high-level meetings of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Gamal Roshdy, the spokesman of the Secretary-General, stated that the visit is expected to witness an intensive work programme that includes Mr. Aboul Gheit's participation in a host of high-level meetings to discuss issues of Arab concern in the political, economic, and social fields, a ministerial conference on United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) funding, a summit on transforming education, and a meeting on minority rights.
Mr. Aboul Gheit is also meeting with leading international officials, such as the Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres, the President of the Yemeni Presidential Council Rashad Al-Alimi, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, and Arab and foreign ministers and high-level officials. The meetings will see discussions over ways to develop cooperation between the League of Arab States and international and regional parties.
