Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit received on Monday Tanja Fajon, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, who is currently visiting Cairo to address the opening session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level in its Regular Session 158.
The session will be held on Tuesday at the League's headquarters in Cairo to promote the Slovenian candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2024-2025 term.
According to spokesman for the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Jamal Rushdie, Aboul Gheit and the Slovenian FM discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two sides in many areas as well as within the framework of the Arab-European partnership, which benefits both sides. The Secretary-General also expressed his hope that Slovenia will continue to support Arab causes, especially the Palestinian cause, at all international forums.
Minister Fajon said her country values its relationship with Arab countries, stressing the importance of working to upgrade these relations on all levels. She also said that her country is keen to expand political cooperation with the Arab world under the umbrella of the Arab League. The minister also stressed Slovenia's readiness to support Arab issues, especially the Palestinian cause, if it wins a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
