League of Arab States chief welcomes Australia's decision to reverse recognition of West Jerusalem as capital of Israel

    ـــــ

Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit welcomed the Australian government's decision to reverse a previous Australian decision to recognize West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Aboul Gheit expressed gratitude to the new government for making this correction to the previous government's decision, which reflects adherence to international law.

Spokesman for the Secretary-General Jamal Rushdie said that Aboul Gheit hopes that the countries that have previously recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel or moved their embassies to the city occupied since 1967 will follow suit.

Secretary-General of the League of Arab States expressed his great appreciation for Canberra's courage in upholding the principles of justice and law, and stressed that the two-state solution remains the only agreed-upon formula consistent with international law to reach a just and final settlement between the Palestinians and the Israelis, Rushdie said.
