Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab
States, headed to Tokyo on 7 July in an official visit to participate in
the fifth session of the Arab-Japan Economic Forum and hold several
interviews and official activities. This is Mr. Aboul Gheit's first
official visit to Japan.
Gamal Roshdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General,
stated that Mr. Aboul Gheit is scheduled to attend the fifth session of
the forum on 10-11 July. The forum is organised by the General
Secretariat of the League of Arab States in collaboration with the
Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, and the Japan
External Trade Organisation (JETRO). The spokesman explained that the
forum will be inaugurated by the Secretary-General alongside Ms. Yōko
Kamikawa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Yasutoshi Nishimura,
Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry. The Arab side will be
represented by several ministers from the sectors of energy, trade,
industry, and economics.
The current session of the forum focuses on issues of partnership,
enhancing Arab-Japanese trade exchange, and cooperation in the fields of
energy transition, digital transformation, and investment.
The spokesman added that the official visit to Japan is expected to
include a number of important meetings with Japanese political leaders.
The meetings will be led by the Secretary-General with the Acting Prime
Minister of Japan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Chair of
the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee of the House of Peers of the
Japanese Parliament. Additionally, a meeting with the Minister of
Digital Transformation is scheduled. The aim of these meetings is to
exchange views on key issues of mutual concern in the regional and
international arena, with a primary focus on the Palestinian cause. This
remains the central issue for the League of Arab States, especially in
light of the extremely dangerous developments occurring due to the
brutal Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip since October.
