The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, received Mr. Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs, on 3 November at the League’s headquarters. The two sides discussed current developments in the region, particularly the situations in Sudan and Libya.
Gamal Roshdy, the Secretary-General’s official spokesperson, stated that Mr. Boulos provided the Secretary-General with a detailed briefing on recent US efforts in Sudan aimed at halting the war, expediting the delivery of humanitarian aid, and launching a Sudanese-led political process. He also presented the US position rejecting the escalation and violations in the El Fasher region. Furthermore, the US envoy shared the US perspective on the situation in Libya, outlining the challenges and opportunities for achieving stability in both Arab countries.
The spokesperson added that Mr. Aboul Gheit affirmed the pivotal role of the League of Arab States in supporting efforts to promote peace and stability in the region, stressing the importance of coordination with international partners to find sustainable solutions to the crises in Sudan and Libya.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Secretary-General extended a formal invitation to the US Secretary of State to visit the League’s headquarters, reaffirming the depth of relations between the League of Arab States and the United States and their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation in addressing regional issues.
The spokesperson further noted that both sides stressed the existing level of coordination and cooperation between the League of Arab States and the United States on various regional matters of mutual interest.
