An invitation was extended to His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, by Counsellor Hazem Badawi, Chairman of the National Elections Authority, regarding the League’s participation in monitoring the 2025 Egyptian parliamentary elections. In line with the League’s commitment to following electoral processes in its member states and its keenness to support and strengthen the democratic process, promote good governance, and ensure the smooth conduct of elections, His Excellency the Secretary-General directed the formation of a League mission headed by Ambassador Hussein Al-Hindawi, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Financial and Administrative Control Sector, to monitor the elections. The mission includes a group of observers from the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, representing several Arab nationalities.
The first phase of the elections is scheduled for 10 and 11 November, and the second phase for 24 and 25 November.
The mission’s objectives include monitoring all stages of the electoral process, including the nomination phase, candidates’ campaigns, voting, and the counting and tabulation of votes, to ensure compliance with national laws and regulations as well as international standards. The League’s operations room will coordinate and communicate with observers throughout the voting period, during which the mission will also meet with various parties involved in preparing and organising the elections.
The mission will issue its preliminary statement upon completion of its monitoring of the first round in both phases. Its final report will be released after the conclusion of all phases of the electoral process. The report, containing the mission’s detailed observations and recommendations, will be submitted to the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and subsequently forwarded to the relevant authorities in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
