  • League to monitor Iraq's 2025 parliamentary elections

    ​In response to an invitation extended to His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, by the Independent High Electoral Commission of the Republic of Iraq regarding the League’s participation in monitoring the Iraqi parliamentary elections scheduled for 11 November, and in line with the League’s commitment to monitoring elections in its member states, as well as its dedication to supporting and strengthening democracy, consolidating good governance, and ensuring the proper conduct of elections, His Excellency the Secretary-General directed the dispatch of a League mission headed by Ambassador Dr. Faed Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General. The mission comprises several staff members from the General Secretariat representing five Arab nationalities to monitor this important electoral event.

    The mission’s objectives include assessing all aspects of the electoral process with full impartiality and objectivity, including candidates’ campaigns, voting, and the counting and tabulation of ballots, to ensure compliance with national laws and regulations, as well as international standards.

    The mission will issue its preliminary statement upon completion of its monitoring activities and will later release its final report, which will be submitted to His Excellency the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States. The report will include the mission’s detailed observations and recommendations and will be forwarded to the relevant authorities in the Republic of Iraq.

    The League of Arab States mission expresses its hope that the electoral process will be conducted under the best possible conditions and that its results will reflect the will of the Iraqi people in freely choosing their representatives. The mission further hopes that the elections will contribute to strengthening Iraq’s security, stability, and national unity, thus fulfilling the aspirations of the Iraqi people for development and prosperity.
