In light of Israel's schemes to dismantle the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and efforts to terminate its presence in the occupied Palestinian territory, particularly in the Gaza Strip and Jerusalem, and within the framework of the joint coordination mechanism between the League of Arab States, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the African Union in support of the Palestinian cause (the Tripartite Mechanism in Support of the Palestinian Cause), the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States is convening a joint meeting between the Tripartite Mechanism and UNRWA on the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. The meeting will take place on 2 July at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo.
The meeting will address the deepening humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip and the operational and financial challenges facing UNRWA in the occupied Palestinian territory. It will also focus on the importance of developing a unified position and outlining prospects for joint action in response to these dire conditions, in light of the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people—particularly the Gaza Strip—which continues to endure a brutal campaign of destruction and genocide.
The aggression includes systematic destruction, deliberate mass killings, the use of starvation as a weapon of war, the imposition of a comprehensive blockade to prevent the entry of basic humanitarian supplies, and the establishment of alleged humanitarian centres on the outskirts, where starving civilians are targeted and killed as they attempt to access minimal amounts of food—an inhumane practice that flagrantly violates human rights and dignity.
