  • General Secretariat statement on Arab Sports Day
    Date: 26/07/2025

The League of Arab States extends its appreciation and gratitude to Arab athletes, who represent the driving force behind the Arab nation's pursuit of development, progress, and prosperity, as well as the promotion of peace, tolerance, and cooperation among the peoples of the Arab world.

The League affirms its belief in the importance of encouraging active youth participation in various sporting activities and in fostering the spirit of sportsmanship and fair competition across all sports and youth programmes at every level, with the aim of strengthening unity and solidarity among Arab peoples, particularly in light of the continued dedication and efforts of Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports to advance Arab sports.

In line with the vision and approach of the League of Arab States, and through the Council of Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports, Arab Sports Day was established to be celebrated annually on 26 July, commemorating the launch of the first Arab Games held in Alexandria, Arab Republic of Egypt, in 1953.

In recognition of the League's contributions and ongoing support for Arab sports across various domains, Arab Sports Day will be observed each year at multiple levels, with the Social Affairs Sector—Youth and Sports Department, and the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Youth and Sports Ministers—organising the celebrations in coordination with ministries of youth and sports or their equivalents in member states, in a manner tailored to each country's context. A summary of the events will be submitted to the Social Affairs Sector (Youth and Sports Department, Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Youth and Sports Ministers) for circulation among Arab countries, serving as a platform for the exchange of information and expertise between ministries.

The League of Arab States remains firmly committed to supporting Arab youth and athletes in achieving their aspirations for a better future.
