His Excellency Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar, received today at his palace His Excellency Ambassador Mohannad Saleh Lajouzi, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Director-General of the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries, along with his accompanying delegation. The visit formed part of the delegation's official mission to the United Republic of Tanzania and was linked to the ongoing medical training programme conducted in cooperation with the Egyptian-African Society of Cardiology and Research and the Friends of the Heart Institute. The programme involves the participation of a select group of physicians supervising activities in both Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar.
At the outset of the meeting, His Excellency the President welcomed the Ambassador and his delegation, expressing his appreciation for the visit. Ambassador Lajouzi, in turn, conveyed his deep gratitude to President Mwinyi for the warm welcome and generous hospitality, delivering the greetings of His Excellency Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States. He also praised the importance the President attaches to Arab-African cooperation. Ambassador Lajouzi provided an overview of the Fund's activities in the fields of medicine, health, agriculture, and diplomacy, underscoring the value of Arab-African cooperation and the League's role in supporting African countries through the Fund. He further affirmed the Fund's readiness to undertake any activity proposed by the Zanzibari side.
For his part, Dr. Ahmed Ashraf Issa, President of the Egyptian-African Society of Cardiology and Research, reviewed the main areas of cooperation between the Society and the Fund, noting the implementation steps underway in Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar in cooperation with the Samia Foundation, affiliated with the Tanzanian Presidency, and the Heart Institute in Dar es Salaam, in addition to collaboration with a company specialising in water purification for medical resorts.
His Excellency the President of Zanzibar expressed his keen interest in following up on the ongoing medical activities, commended the efforts of all parties involved, and voiced his aspiration for further support and cooperation in various fields to qualify Zanzibari cadres, particularly in health, diplomacy, and water.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Ambassador Lajouzi reiterated his gratitude to His Excellency the President and presented him with a commemorative shield from the Fund, on behalf of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, in recognition of bilateral relations and in support of Arab-African cooperation.
