The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, voiced deep concern over the escalating tensions in western Libya, particularly the buildup of military forces near the capital, Tripoli. He stressed that the League is closely following developments, warning that the continuation of this course could risk dragging the country back into conflict, with grave consequences for Libya’s security and unity.
Gamal Roshdi, the Secretary-General’s official spokesperson, quoted Mr. Aboul Gheit as urging all parties to de-escalate and resolve their differences through dialogue, noting that the resort to violence will only deepen divisions. Mr. Aboul Gheit called on all parties to engage earnestly in negotiation processes, reaffirming the League of Arab States’ readiness to continue fostering intra-Libyan dialogue in cooperation with regional and international partners, in a manner that strengthens stability.
