His Excellency Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Media and Communication Sector, received Her Excellency Ms. Maitha Majid Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Media Strategy and Policies Sector at the Emirates Media Council, on 29 October.
The meeting reviewed areas of cooperation between the Media and Communication Sector and the Emirates Media Council, particularly the United Arab Emirates' significant contributions to supporting the joint Arab media effort and advancing its mechanisms, including the establishment of the Arab Committee for Electronic Media and the Code of Conduct for its website.
The discussions also covered preparations for the 55th session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, the 21st session of the Executive Bureau, and the 103rd session of the Permanent Committee for Arab Media, along with the key items on the agendas of these important meetings.
Her Excellency Ms. Al Suwaidi presented information on the new legislation governing media and digital content in the United Arab Emirates, which constitutes a qualitative leap in modernising professional practices across print, audiovisual, and digital media. The legislation also promotes ethical media conduct, particularly in combating the spread of rumours, fake news, and misinformation, as well as in rejecting hatred and discrimination and fostering a culture of peace and tolerance.
In this context, Ambassador Khattabi commended the UAE's media experience, noting its success in keeping pace with legislative, technological, and digital transformations, which enriches initiatives aimed at strengthening the Arab media presence internationally.
On this occasion, His Excellency Ambassador Khattabi presented Ms. Al Suwaidi with a commemorative plaque on behalf of the Media and Communication Sector in recognition and appreciation of her continued efforts and constructive cooperation with the sector.
