  • Head of League Mission monitoring Iraq's parliamentary elections meets with Chairman of Independent High Electoral Commission and UNAMI

    ​Ambassador Dr. Faed Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the League of Arab States' Mission monitoring the 2025 Iraqi parliamentary elections, met with Judge Omar Ahmed Mohamed, Chairman of the Independent High Electoral Commission of the Republic of Iraq, on 10 November at the Commission's headquarters.

    Dr. Mustafa said that the mission's objective was to monitor all aspects of the electoral process with complete impartiality and objectivity, including candidates' campaigns, voting, and the counting and tabulation of ballots, while ensuring compliance with the laws and regulations of the country and alignment with international standards.

    For his part, Judge Mohamed reviewed the preparations for the elections undertaken from all legal and technical perspectives. He affirmed that the Commission had completed all necessary logistical arrangements to ensure the best possible conditions for conducting and ensuring the success of the elections. He also reviewed the voting process on voting day, noting that it proceeded smoothly and efficiently.

    The head of the League mission also met with Mr. Amir Ryan, head of the Electoral Assistance Office and Chief Electoral Advisor at the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), where they reviewed the progress of the ongoing electoral process in Iraq at its various stages and dimensions. His Excellency received a comprehensive presentation on the role of the United Nations mission in the different aspects of the electoral process.
