The League of Arab States reaffirms its commitment, on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, to supporting them as a central pillar in building Arab societies. It also commends the efforts of countries and institutions working to enhance their participation and empowerment across various fields.
This year’s theme, “Promoting Inclusive Societies for Persons with Disabilities to Enhance Social Progress,” aligns with the outcomes of the Second World Summit for Social Development, which highlighted the need to build more just, inclusive, and sustainable societies and to integrate a disability perspective into public policies as a prerequisite for achieving social progress and comprehensive development. This vision reflects an international and Arab commitment to placing persons with disabilities at the centre of development processes and reinforces the principle of leaving no one behind.
The League of Arab States follows with interest the reports it receives from member states, which highlight notable achievements alongside the considerable challenges that persons with disabilities continue to face. In this context, the League calls for the continued implementation at the national level of the Secretary-General’s initiative, “The Second Arab Decade for Persons with Disabilities 2023–2032,” given its key developmental pillars and practical implementation plans.
On this occasion, the League of Arab States urges its member states to redouble their national efforts, strengthen joint Arab partnerships, invest in assistive technologies, and ensure the participation of persons with disabilities in decision-making, particularly women and youth, to guarantee the realisation of comprehensive development goals.
The League affirms its continued leadership in joint Arab action to support and empower persons with disabilities, working to mitigate challenges and consolidate achievements, ultimately advancing more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable Arab societies.
The League also expresses its hope for the restoration of security and stability in countries experiencing armed conflict, enabling progress in social development, with a particular focus on persons with disabilities and ensuring their ability to live in safety and harmony within a framework of social justice.
