On the Arab Expatriate's Day, which is celebrated annually by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (LAS) on December 4th, we honor the achievements of the Arab descendants residing abroad, whose contributions to their new societies stand as evidence of their distinction and excellence across political, economic, scientific, cultural, athletic and artistic fields. They represent an extension of an authentic Arab civilization, and a distinguished model of openness to and integration with other civilizations.
LAS appreciates the efforts of Arab expatriates everywhere and their commitment to maintaining ties with their home countries, especially amid the difficult circumstances the Arab region and its states continue to face. A clear example of this commitment is the role played by Arab communities residing abroad during the past two years in condemning the brutal aggression against the Gaza Strip.
On this occasion, LAS calls upon all relevant stakeholders—governments, civil society organizations, religious institutions, academic entities, and members of expatriate communities—to launch initiatives aimed at transferring their expertise and skills to their home countries and societies. LAS reiterates its consistent dedication to highlighting such initiatives and promoting them throughout the Arab world, affirming that it will spare no effort in fulfilling its role in this regard by showcasing these initiatives and disseminating them as successful experiences worthy of support, recognition, and broader benefit.
On this day, more than two years after the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, LAS commends the actions taken by numerous states in support of peace, the cessation of war, and the recognition of the State of Palestine during the United Nations General Assembly meetings in September 2025. It further reaffirms the necessity of ending the suffering of Palestinian expatriates and refugees whose displacement has been prolonged, and to protect their inalienable rights, including the right to self-determination and the right to return to their homes from which they were displaced, as well as compensation, in implementation of the resolutions of international legitimacy, especially United Nations General Assembly Resolution no. 194 of 1948.
