Under the patronage of the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, the State of Libya, and in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Media and Communication Sector), the International Arab Media Dialogue Forum is scheduled to be held in Tripoli on 11-12 December.
Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Media and Communication Sector, who is leading the General Secretariat’s delegation, stated that the forum will witness the participation of numerous media professionals, academics, experts, influencers, and content creators, alongside prominent governmental and diplomatic figures, heads of professional associations, and representatives of organisations holding observer status at the Council of Arab Information Ministers. This includes, for the first time, the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO) and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, following their accession to the Council in this capacity during its 55th session held in Cairo.
Ambassador Khattabi expressed his appreciation to the Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs for hosting this media event, noting that this initiative falls within the framework of efforts to follow up on the implementation plan of the media strategy approved by the Council of Arab Information Ministers. This reference document is considered intrinsically linked to the Arab media action plan abroad.
Ambassador Khattabi explained that the five strategic dimensions of this integrated media vision are centred on: reaffirming the centrality of the Palestinian cause, particularly the legal, social, and cultural status of Jerusalem; promoting the diverse facets of Arab identity through media and communication channels to Arab and international public opinion; combating terrorism and extremism by fostering a culture of tolerance, moderation, and rejection of hatred; advancing development-oriented media in line with the Arab Media Roadmap for Sustainable Development 2030; and encouraging media professionals to pursue quality, innovation, and engagement with the evolving technological and digital landscape.
The Assistant Secretary-General affirmed that the forum’s methodology is comprehensive and coherent, aiming to achieve these fundamental objectives through three sessions. The first will address Arab identity and media content creation, the second will focus on professional training for media personnel and the development of digital content, and the third will examine applications of artificial intelligence in the media sector. Ambassador Khattabi also stated that the Palestinian issue will be addressed in a special session of the Government Communication Forum.
On the sidelines of the forum, specialised workshops and exhibitions will be organised as part of the Tripoli Media Days 2025. These events will include the official reopening of the Libyan National Museum at the Red Castle (Assaraya Alhamra) in its new form, preserving national memory and cultural and archaeological heritage. This follows the collection and restoration of historical artifacts and rare antiquities, as well as the equipping of this cultural landmark with the latest interactive technologies found in major museums.
