    التاريخ: 2022/09/04

The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States welcomed the appointment of Mr. Abdoulaye Bathily as the special representative of the UN secretary-general for Libya and head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, according to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Jamal Rushdie.

The spokesman called on Libyan parties to cooperate with Bathily and support his mission. He also expressed confidence that Bathily will continue the efforts undertaken by the United Nations to help Libya get out of the state of political impasse it is going through by "developing an agreed constitutional and legal basis on which the expected national elections will be held after it has become an urgent demand for a large segment of Libyans, and as the only optimal way to renew the legitimacy of Libyan institutions."

The spokesman said that the secretary-general expressed his aspiration that the next phase would witness more cooperation and coordination between the League of Arab States and the United Nations in order to support efforts aimed at resolving the current political crisis and moving forward to hold elections for the benefit of the Libyan people.
