His Highness Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait, received Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, on 28 May, during an official visit undertaken by Mr. Aboul Gheit to Kuwait, which included a series of meetings and engagements.
Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that the meeting with the Crown Prince was marked by a positive and candid atmosphere, during which they reviewed developments across the Arab region, particularly in the lead-up to the Arab Summit scheduled to convene in Baghdad on 17 May.
Roshdy conveyed that the Secretary-General highlighted during the meeting Kuwait’s distinguished and constructive role within the framework of the League of Arab States, stressing the historical and longstanding ties that bind Kuwait to the League.
The spokesperson further noted that the discussions also focused on the Palestinian cause, in light of the ongoing brutal Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip. In this regard, the Secretary-General affirmed that the international community’s silence regarding the Israeli massacres effectively grants Israel impunity to continue its campaign of killing and ethnic cleansing without accountability or deterrence.
Rushdi added that the Secretary-General’s visit included an important meeting with the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister, His Excellency Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, during which they discussed the prospects for advancing joint Arab action and reviewed the various crises facing the Arab world.
