Dr. Khaled Manzalawi was appointed Assistant Secretary-General for
International Political Affairs at the League of Arab States in Cairo,
Egypt in October 2022.
The ambassador was born and raised in
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He received his BA in Political Science from King
Abdulaziz University in 1998. He earned his MA in International Politics
from the Elliott School of George Washington University in 2009, and
his PhD in International Relations from the School of Geneva Diploma in
Diplomacy in 2015. In 2017, Dr. Manzalawi earned a Master’s degree in
Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
Dr.
Manzalawi worked in various diplomatic missions, beginning his career
in the Political Division of the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Foreign
Affairs in Riyadh, before working at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia in Nairobi, Kenya, from 2004 to 2006. He then joined the Saudi
Arabian Embassy in Washington from 2006 to 2010. From 2010 to 2011 he
became an assistant to the Director of the North American Department at
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in
Riyadh. From 2012 to 2015, he worked with the Permanent Mission of the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations and international
organisations in Geneva, Switzerland, before becoming Deputy Permanent
Representative on the same mission in 2016.
From July 2017 to
February 2021 the ambassador was appointed Deputy Permanent
Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's delegation to the United
Nations in New York. Before joining the League of Arab States he was as
an advisor to the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for
Multilateral International Affairs in Riyadh.
