    He received the Nile Sash from the Arab Republic of Egypt in May 2001

    He obtained the Sash of the Nile from the Republic of Sudan in June 2001

    He received a number of high-level honours from each of the following countries:

    Ecuador - Brazil - Argentina - Federal Germany

    He received his honorary doctorate in humanities from the Lebanese American University in Beirut, July 2010
