  • The Event for Supporting the Central Library of Mosul University

    The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, on Wednesday inaugurated the official event held in support of the central library of the University of Mosul in the presence of senior officials of the Secretariat and a group of representatives of Arab countries.


    An official source at the General Secretariat of the League said that the Secretary-General during the event delivered to the Ambassador d. Ahmad Nayef Rashid Al-Dulaimi, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the League of Arab States more than three thousand books, ranging from gifts from the General Secretariat Library in Arabic, English and French, and other books donated by specialized Arab organizations and institutions of Arab joint work, in addition to a range of books submitted by Arab countries, in various fields of economic, social, political and cultural knowledge.


    The source added that the efforts of the General Secretariat come within the framework of supporting initiatives to revitalize the central university libraries in the Arab countries affected by conflict and war, in particular the initiative to support and rebuild the central library of the University of Mosul in the Republic of Iraq, whose buildings were completely destroyed and looted.


    The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation for the support provided by the Arab League to the library of Mosul University to meet the needs of academic groups, whose collections of books and references - which are not less than one million books, reference and manuscript - were robbed, looted and burned by terrorist groups and ISIS.
