His Excellency Mahmoud Abbas, president of the State of Palestine, received Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Monday at the residence of the Palestinian president in Cairo, who is visiting the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Aboul Gheit listened with interest to Abbas' vision of the Palestinian situation at the present moment, in light of the political track's stalemate, the Israeli occupation's repressive measures and settlement expansion and the siege affecting Palestinian people at all levels, according to Spokesman for the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Jamal Rushdie
The spokesperson quoted Aboul Gheit as confirming that the stalemate in the political track portends the worst consequences and that reaching a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian cause, by ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the key to stability in the Middle East.
