  • Aboul Gheit receives Sudan’s Presidential Envoy

    Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received Ambassador Dafallah Al-Haj Ali, the envoy of Lieutenant-General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, along with his accompanying delegation on 2 May.

    According to Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, the Sudanese presidential envoy conveyed a message from the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council to Mr. Aboul Gheit regarding the current situation in Sudan, including the military situation on the ground and the challenges faced by the Sudanese Armed Forces in establishing security and regaining control, particularly in the capital, Khartoum.

    The envoy stressed the importance of Sudan receiving understanding and support from countries of the League of Arab States and their support for its legitimate institutions, which would contribute to restoring stability in Sudan.

    The Secretary-General stressed the League's commitment to achieving stability in Sudan and protecting its people, capabilities, and institutions. This was evident in the decision issued by the League Council at the delegate level on the same day as the meeting.

    Mr. Aboul Gheit also emphasised the importance of reaching arrangements to address the deteriorating humanitarian situation in areas experiencing armed clashes.

    He reiterated the League's readiness to provide all possible assistance to Sudan with the aim of achieving security and stability, ending the bloodshed of its people, and preserving its territorial integrity.
