  • Statement of the League of Arab States commemorating International Children's Day
    Date: 20/11/2023

On the World Children's Day, observed on November 20th each year, the League of Arab States addresses with deep concern the distressing situation in the Gaza Strip and urges the international community to fully uphold its responsibilities to safeguard the Palestinian children in the face of the ongoing atrocities, genocide and heinous crimes perpetrated by the Israeli occupation forces which have claimed the lives of numerous Palestinian children.

The League of Arab States (Social Affairs Sector-Family and Childhood Department) calls for immediate action to protect these children by enforcing resolutions and laws that guarantee child protection, outlined in the Declaration on the protection of women and children in emergency and armed conflict situations of 1974, the declaration on the rights of the child of 1959, the international conventions on the rights of the child of 1989, and the optional protocols to the convention.

The League of Arab States condemns the inhumane and unconscionable acts of violence perpetrated by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people, which threaten their very existence and future. And reiterates the entitlement of every Palestinian child to live a life that is free, dignified, secure, and peaceful on their own land, devoid of fear, displacement, and all forms of violence, and emphasizes the absolute right of protection for Palestinian children under occupation conditions.

The League of Arab States recognizes the urgency to address this issue and calls for concerted efforts to prevent further loss of innocent lives.

Commemorating this day, the League of Arab States will release a video that documents the hardships and challenges faced by Palestinian children in Gaza.
