  • UN Security Council resolution calling for humanitarian truce is a modest stride in the correct trajectory: Aboul Gheit
    Date: 16/11/2023

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, said that the resolution promulgated by the UN Security Council on Wednesday, which advocates for expeditious and protracted humanitarian truces across the expanse of the Gaza Strip, along with the establishment of humanitarian corridors facilitating the unhindered delivery of aid to the populace, embodies a modest stride in the correct trajectory.
The Secretary-General contended that the entreaty put forth to the Security Council pertained not solely to the summoning of an instantaneous ceasefire in Gaza but rather extended to an insistence on humanitarian truces that would permit the influx of aid amidst the ongoing Israeli occupation authorities' bombardment of civilians and the deliberate targeting of medical facilities.
Gamal Roshdy, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General, conveyed Mr. Aboul Gheit's contentment with the clauses enshrined in the resolution, specifically those advocating for the urgent delivery of aid unimpeded through designated humanitarian corridors. Furthermore, he implored upon the international community to expeditiously undertake the realisation of the resolution's stipulations, emphasising the imperative of securing Israel's compliance with its entirety. He underscored that this measure must invigorate all endeavours aimed at terminating the aggression and effectuating an immediate ceasefire
