  • Growing global consensus on inevitability of two-state solution: Aboul Gheit in meeting with Foreign Ministers of Portugal, Slovenia

    Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, met with the Foreign Minister of Portugal, João Craviño, and the Foreign Minister of Slovenia, Tanja Vagon, on the sidelines of the Union for the Mediterranean meetings in Barcelona on 27 November.
    Gamal Roshdy, the spokesman for the Secretary-General, said that the meeting demonstrated a clear alignment of views regarding the imperative of a ceasefire in Gaza. The participants stressed the need for concerted efforts to transition the current temporary humanitarian truce into a lasting and comprehensive ceasefire.
    Roshdy highlighted that discussions revolved around strategies to activate the two-state solution in the upcoming phase, leveraging the growing global consensus affirming the inevitability of realising the two-state vision. This approach aims to achieve a just settlement that ensures security and peace for both sides of the conflict.
    Quoting the Secretary-General, Roshdy underscored the substantial responsibility placed on Europe to advance the settlement path in the forthcoming stages. Mr. Aboul Gheit emphasised the importance of vigorously promoting the idea of convening an international conference to activate the two-state solution. This proposal is considered a significant mechanism enjoying consensus from both the Arab and European perspectives.
