  • Chinese Foreign Minister meets with Ministerial Committee appointed by Extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit at UN headquarters, New York 29 November 2023

    Members of the Ministerial Committee appointed by the Extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit and led by His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, held a meeting at the United Nations headquarters in New York City on 29 November. 

    The meeting was attended by His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Wang Yi, and prominent figures such as His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Ayman Al-Safadi, His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, and His Excellency the Minister of Palestinian Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Riyad Al-Maliki. Also on attendance were His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Hakan Fidan and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Retno Marsudi.

    The meeting saw the participation of His Excellency the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit, as well as the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Malaysia Dr. Zambari Abdul Qadir, and the UAE Minister of State Khalifa bin Shaheen Al-Murr, the representative of the Arab Group in the Security Council.

    During the meeting, the participants discussed developments in the Gaza Strip and its vicinity. They highlighted the positive outcomes of the humanitarian truce, including the release of some captives who were reunited with their families. The ongoing efforts for an immediate ceasefire were also a focal point of the discussion. Emphasis was placed on the crucial role of the permanent member states of the Security Council in fulfilling their responsibility to protect civilians and ensure compliance with the principles of international and humanitarian laws.

    The Ministerial Committee members underscored the significance of the international community taking effective measures to establish secure relief corridors for the prompt delivery of urgent humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

    Furthermore, the committee reiterated its call for a return to the path of a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace. This involves implementing international resolutions related to the two-state solution and empowering the Palestinian people to realise their legitimate rights in establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the borders of 4 June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
