The city of Tangier in the Kingdom of Morocco will host a high-level event, marking the official launch of the Arab Plan for Education and Training in Human Rights, on 5-6 December.
The event aims to discuss strategies for the plan's implementation and is organised by the Kingdom of Morocco in collaboration with the League of Arab States. This initiative follows a recommendation from the Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights during its 52nd ordinary session.
Ambassador Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General for Social Affairs, highlighted that the Arab plan, initially presented by Morocco, is the outcome of collaborative efforts by Arab experts led by Kuwait. These experts specialise in education and human rights.
The Arab Plan for Education and Training in Human Rights stands as a key objective within the broader framework of the Arab Strategy for Human Rights, adopted in March 2019 at the summit level.
The plan is a consolidation and update of the Arab Plan for Human Rights Education (2008) and the Arab Plan for Promoting a Culture of Human Rights (2010), both adopted at summit levels. The upcoming high-level event in Tangier aligns closely with the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (11 and 12 December 2023) and precedes the 20th anniversary of the Arab Charter on Human Rights (March 2024).
The event is being opened by His Excellency Mr. Abdel Latif Wehbe, Minister of Justice of the Kingdom of Morocco, and promises extensive participation, featuring senior officials, ambassadors from Arab countries, representatives of international and regional organisations, and stakeholders involved in the Joint Arab Conference, alongside various civil society organisations active in human rights.
