The seventh day, 9 December, featured a series of activities organised by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Meteorology at the League of Arab States pavilion. Several specialised Arab organisations, civil society groups, and private sector companies participated in these events. The day commenced with a session organised by the Arab Centre for Studies of Dry Zones and Dry Lands, focusing on Arab food security amidst the challenges of climate change and water scarcity. The session explored adaptive and mitigative measures to climate change, showcasing unique agricultural techniques pioneered by ACSAD that have contributed to enhancing water and food security.
As part of the League of Arab States pavilion, the Republic of Yemen conducted a workshop entitled "Opportunities, Needs, Gaps, Climate Finance in the Republic of Yemen." The workshop brought together the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Yemen, senior officials, and experts in the field of climate. The discussion delved into the opportunities and challenges faced by Yemen, emphasising the importance of climate finance in addressing environmental needs and bridging gaps in the country's efforts to combat climate change.
The Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross orchestrated two noteworthy events addressing environmental challenges in the Arab world. The first event delved into the ARCO initiative, examining the role of national societies and partners in environmental sanitation and waste investment. Both events spotlighted youth initiatives in waste recycling, showcasing innovative approaches.
Additionally, two events centred on the interconnection between ecosystems, water, energy, and food, highlighting their pivotal role in sustainable development in the Arab region. Another focus was the promotion of wastewater reuse in the Middle East and North Africa region. These events were conducted in collaboration with the Arab Water Council and the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe.
Concluding the seventh day, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport hosted a forum on the Strategic Ocean Alliance. The forum aimed to bolster cooperation to address the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems and explore sustainable opportunities within the blue economy.
