  • Eighth edition of Arab Media Excellence Award
    Date: 04/04/2024
His Excellency Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Media and Communication Sector, convened a meeting with His Excellency Ambassador Talal Khaled Al-Mutairi, Permanent Representative of the State of Kuwait to the League of Arab States, on 4 April to tackle preparations for the eighth edition of the Arab Media Excellence Award 2024.
Ambassador Khattabi emphasised that this meeting aligns with the ongoing efforts to implement the decisions made during the 53rd session of the Council of Information Ministers in June 2023 in Rabat. These decisions aim to enhance the Arab Media Excellence Award by showcasing the rich societal and cultural diversity within the Arab region. Furthermore, they seek to foster innovation, promote professional excellence, and bolster capabilities across various media platforms including written, radio, television, and digital media.
He further announced that the Media and Communication Sector has successfully collected a range of submissions within the designated timeframe, sourced from delegates of member states and various organisations and unions tasked with media responsibilities under the auspices of the League of Arab States. These submissions will be reviewed by the arbitration committee during its scheduled meeting from 22 to 24 April 2024 at the headquarters of the General Secretariat. The committee will select the best nominations in accordance with the internal regulations and criteria for granting this esteemed financial and honorary award.
The Assistant Secretary-General expressed gratitude for the supportive role played by the State of Kuwait in advancing joint Arab media endeavours and sponsoring the Media Excellence Award. This year, the award will be held under the theme: “The Media of Crises, Disasters, and Risks,” encompassing the harrowing realities of the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. This theme underscores the recent series of significant natural disasters experienced in the region, including the devastating earthquake in the Al Haouz region of Morocco and the widespread floods that ravaged the city of Derna in Libya. These events underscore the profound influence of public media and communication channels on citizen awareness and behaviour in navigating disasters and addressing their humanitarian, social, economic, environmental, and living consequences
