The Legal Affairs Department will convene the fifth meeting of the joint committee consisting of experts and representatives from the Ministries of Justice and Interior, as well as relevant authorities in member states. The purpose of this meeting is to examine the "Draft Arab Guidance Law to Prevent Hate Speech," scheduled to take place on 23-24 April at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, at 10 am Cairo time.
During the meeting, participants will discuss the articles of the draft law, initially proposed by the Ministry of Justice in Kuwait. It is anticipated that the final version of the draft will be refined and possibly concluded at this gathering.
Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Maha Bakhit, Director of the Legal Affairs Department at the League of Arab States, said that the organisation of this meeting is in accordance with the decision made during the 39th ordinary session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice on 16 October 2023. The decision mandated the convening of another meeting of the joint committee comprising experts and representatives from the Ministries of Justice and Interior, as well as relevant authorities across Arab countries. The objective is to review the "Draft Arab Guidance Law to Prevent Hate Speech" in light of feedback provided by Ministries of Justice and Interior, along with relevant authorities in the region. Participation in this meeting will include experts and representatives from the Ministries of Justice and Interior, as well as relevant authorities from Arab countries.
