Dr. Said Abu Ali, Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Affairs at the League of Arab States, met with His Excellency Ambassador François Cornett, the Ambassador of Belgium to the Arab Republic of Egypt. The meeting centred on the latest developments concerning the Palestinian cause, particularly the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, notably the genocide, destruction, and infliction of hunger taking place in the Gaza Strip.
During the discussion, Dr. Abu Ali conveyed his profound gratitude for the longstanding Arab-Belgian relations, acknowledging Belgium's supportive stance towards the Palestinian cause. He also commended Belgium's efforts to halt the aggression and its contributions to the relief endeavours for the Palestinian people, notably through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
Furthermore, the Assistant Secretary-General expressed his hope for Belgium's recognition of the State of Palestine, emphasising its alignment with the vision of a two-state solution. This vision entails ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital—a crucial step towards achieving security, peace, and stability in the region. Dr. Abu Ali underlined the importance of adhering to the relevant decisions of international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative as the sole path towards realising this vision.
