  • “Draft Arab Law to Protect Internally Displaced Persons in Arab Countries” studied at second meeting of joint committee comprising experts, representatives of Justice, Interior Ministries, concerned Arab authorities

    The Legal Affairs Department is set to convene the second meeting of the joint committee comprising experts and representatives from the Ministries of Justice, Interior, and relevant authorities in member states. The purpose of this gathering is to deliberate on the "Draft Arab Guidance Law for the Protection of Internally Displaced Persons in Arab Countries." The meeting is scheduled to take place on 8-9 May at the headquarters of the League of Arab States, commencing at 10 am, Cairo time.
    During the session, participants will examine the articles of the proposed "Arab Guidance Law for the Protection of Internally Displaced Persons in Arab Countries," which was initiated by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Iraq.
    Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Maha Bakhit, Director of the Legal Affairs Department at the League of Arab States, highlighted that the convening of this meeting aligns with the decision of the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice during its ordinary session (39) held on 16 October 2023. The decision stipulated the necessity of holding a second meeting of the joint committee, composed of representatives from Ministries of Justice, Interior, and relevant authorities in Arab countries, to examine the draft "Arab Guiding Law for the Protection and Assistance of Internally Displaced Persons in Arab Countries."
    The meeting will see the participation of experts and representatives from Ministries of Justice, Interior, and concerned authorities across Arab countries.
