Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, paid a visit to Lieutenant General Ibrahim Jaber, Vice-President of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, at his residence in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, which is hosting the 34th Arab Summit. Lieutenant General Jaber is leading the Sudanese delegation and is scheduled to deliver his country’s address during the summit proceedings.
The meeting provided an opportunity for an in-depth exchange on critical issues pertaining to the restoration of peace, security, and stability in Sudan. The discussions underscored the imperative of safeguarding the unity and integrity of Sudanese state institutions and supporting efforts aimed at reinstating their effective operation across the national territory.
The situation in the Darfur region also featured prominently in the talks, with particular focus on ongoing efforts to restore state control and liberate areas affected by instability.
The Sudanese side stressed the need for Arab support in rehabilitating essential infrastructure—particularly in the sectors of electricity, water, healthcare, and education—which have sustained severe damage as a result of systematic attacks by insurgent militias.
