Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, condemned the recent raids carried out by Israeli occupation forces on the southern suburb of Beirut, warning that these repeated violations of the cessation of hostilities agreement, signed last November, risk escalating tensions and reigniting violence.
Gamal Roshdy, the Secretary-General’s official spokesman, quoted Mr. Aboul Gheit as saying that Israel’s actions clearly aim to provoke instability in Lebanon and that the repeated incursions are effectively undermining the substance and credibility of the cessation of hostilities agreement.
Mr. Aboul Gheit called on the American and French mediators to intensify their efforts and exert meaningful pressure on the Israeli side to safeguard the agreement and restore calm.
The Secretary-General also affirmed the urgent need for the full and precise implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, including adherence to all its provisions—particularly the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the five remaining locations still under occupation in southern Lebanon.
