As part of the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries (AFTAC)/League of Arab States' ongoing commitment to supporting Sudanese personnel and strengthening Arab-African cooperation, a meeting was held on 23 July between His Excellency Ambassador Mohannad Saleh Lajouzi, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Director-General of AFTAC, and His Excellency Lieutenant General Emad Eddin Mustafa Adawi, Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, at the new Sudanese Embassy in New Cairo.
The two sides discussed arrangements for a training course for Sudanese diplomats residing in the Arab Republic of Egypt, organised by AFTAC at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, under the supervision of His Excellency Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League.
His Excellency the Sudanese Ambassador welcomed the initiative and stressed its importance in building the capacity of Sudanese personnel. He commended AFTAC's role in providing technical support and training, particularly in light of previous courses that benefited Sudanese medical students. He also praised the League's continued support for Sudan, demonstrated through high-level visits, notably the visit of the Secretary-General to Sudan, as well as the Arab Academy for Science and Technology's contribution to graduating cohorts of Sudanese medical professionals.
During the meeting, the two sides also explored the possibility of implementing future training programmes to empower displaced Sudanese women through income-generating small-business courses, in addition to organising a training course for diplomats in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, once conditions on the ground permit.
