Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received His Excellency Lương Cường, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat on 4 August.
The Vietnamese accompanying delegation included the Chairman of the Internal Political Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, as well as the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Defence, and Education. The meeting took place as part of the Vietnamese President’s official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Gamal Roshdy, the Secretary-General’s official spokesperson, stated that Mr. Aboul Gheit welcomed the President to the League of Arab States headquarters, stressing the importance of strengthening relations between the League, its member states, and Vietnam, within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two sides in 2023. He expressed hope for enhanced cooperation in the fields of trade, industry, technology, innovation, and culture.
The spokesperson noted that the Secretary-General commended Vietnam’s consistent support for the Palestinian cause—a central issue for the League of Arab States—and its endorsement of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, as well as Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations.
He added that the Vietnamese President affirmed during the meeting the genuine desire of his government and people to enhance Arab-Vietnamese relations, contributing to prosperity and development for both sides.
The spokesperson added that the Vietnamese President met with the Permanent Representatives to the League of Arab States, where he delivered a speech expressing Vietnam’s aspiration to deepen cooperative ties with the League and its member states across various fields. He also outlined key aspects of Vietnam’s vision regarding regional and international developments, highlighting the country’s pioneering economic and development experience, as well as its future vision for Arab-Vietnamese relations.
