  • Aboul Gheit warns of grave consequences of Israel's offensive on Gaza City, welcomes UN report confirming Israel's act of genocide
    Date: 17/09/2025

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, warned of the grave consequences of the Israeli occupation’s expanded ground offensive on Gaza City. He stressed that the assault constitutes a new and extremely dangerous chapter in the genocide Israel has been waging in Gaza for two years. He condemned, in the strongest terms, the occupation’s clear attempts to force the Palestinian people in Gaza to abandon their homeland under the threat of death or starvation, implementing a displacement scenario rejected by Arab and international powers and in violation of international law and all humanitarian norms.

Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, quoted Mr. Aboul Gheit as saying that the military operation in Gaza City demonstrates boundless recklessness on the part of the occupation and represents a shameful breach of international humanitarian law, given that the overwhelming majority of Gaza’s population are civilians, including women and children.

Mr. Aboul Gheit further condemned the international community’s failure to restrain Israeli arrogance and to end this regional violence, stressing that the world will bear a heavy price for its inaction and for granting free rein to occupation leaders who have become completely corrupted and consumed with shedding Palestinian blood, or with forcing Palestinians to leave the Gaza Strip after rendering it uninhabitable.

In this context, the spokesman welcomed the findings of the United Nations Independent Commission of Inquiry on the Palestinian Territories, including East Jerusalem, which concluded that Israel has indeed committed genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza, directly implicating the occupying state’s prime minister, president, and former chief of staff. Roshdy affirmed that these findings must compel the international community to assume its responsibilities in prosecuting the war criminals responsible for genocide, and in working by all possible means to halt the genocide now being perpetrated in full view of the world in Gaza City.
