  • Aboul Gheit condemns attack on El Fasher mosque, killing of dozens of civilian worshippers

    Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, condemned the attack on a mosque in El Fasher on Friday that killed dozens of civilian worshippers.

    Gamal Roshdy, the Secretary-General's Spokesperson, reiterated Aboul Gheit's call for lifting the siege of El Fasher, which has persisted for more than a year and a half despite Security Council Resolution 2736 (2024), and for the immediate cessation of hostilities, respect for and protection of civilians, and the facilitation of humanitarian access.

    The Spokesperson added that the League of Arab States is currently engaged in intensive consultations with the United Nations and the African Union to resume Sudanese-led talks at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa and to facilitate a humanitarian truce and ceasefire.
