His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Faed Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector, met with Mr. Roland Friedrich, Acting Director of the UNRWA Office in Cairo, on 14 October at the headquarters of the General Secretariat.
Mr. Friedrich reviewed the latest developments facing UNRWA in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, as well as the severe financial deficit in its programme budget. Ambassador Mustafa reaffirmed the League's support for UNRWA as a symbol of the international community's commitment to the Palestinian refugee issue, stressing its vital and irreplaceable role in providing essential services to Palestinian refugees.
He also underscored the importance of UNRWA's role in the Gaza reconstruction plan and affirmed that the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States will continue its efforts to mobilise support for the renewal of UNRWA's mandate.
