  • Aboul Gheit condemns attack on UN base in South Kordofan
    Date: 14/12/2025

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States strongly condemned the drone attacks that targeted the Kadugli logistical base of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) in South Kordofan State, Sudan, on 13 December. The attacks resulted in the deaths of six personnel and the injury of eight from the Bangladeshi brigade participating in the peacekeeping mission.

The official spokesperson for the Secretary-General conveyed Mr. Aboul Gheit’s sincere condolences to the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery to the wounded, and reaffirming his appreciation for United Nations missions operating under extremely dangerous conditions.

He stressed that targeting United Nations forces constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law and represents a new war crime, calling for accountability for those responsible for these attacks. He added that strengthening accountability is a fundamental pillar for the protection of peacekeeping forces and the preservation of the authority of international law.

The League of Arab States also renewed its call to support and strengthen efforts aimed at achieving an immediate cessation of hostilities in Sudan, based on the principles of preserving Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and resuming the political process to reach a permanent ceasefire within an inclusive, comprehensive, and Sudanese-owned process.
