  • Aboul Gheit honoured by Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions

    His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received on 21 December 2025, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat, Mr Sultan bin Hassan Al-Jamali, Secretary-General of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, and Ambassador Mahmoud Karem, Chairman of the National Council for Human Rights of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

    Ambassador Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that the meeting included a ceremony honouring His Excellency the Secretary-General, during which a commemorative shield was presented to him in recognition of his outstanding efforts in supporting and promoting human rights issues, as well as his effective role in upholding the principles of justice and human dignity within the framework of joint Arab action.

    The spokesperson added that both the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions and the National Council for Human Rights of the Arab Republic of Egypt commended the role played by the Secretary-General in strengthening Arab cooperation in the field of human rights, enhancing dialogue, promoting a culture of respect for rights and fundamental freedoms, and supporting the Palestinian cause in various human rights bodies and international forums.

    For his part, the Secretary-General expressed his sincere appreciation to the Network and the Council for this honour, stressing that the protection of human rights constitutes a fundamental pillar of stability and development. He reaffirmed that the League of Arab States will continue to support all efforts and initiatives aimed at promoting these values in Arab countries, and at enhancing attention to human rights issues in their political, economic, and social dimensions.
